AdvocacyPublic-private collaboration and joint leadership is imperative to the state's and region's ability to successfully compete in the global marketplace. The Partnership's work advocating on behalf of the 495/MetroWest region is critical, not only to addressing our infrastructure needs but also to ensuring that our region has a voice in larger policy deliberations. To do so, the Partnership provides a unique opportunity for the region's diverse constituencies, interests, and leaders to meet and forge consensus on the major challenges confronting the region. As a result, our public and private sector leaders have benefited from this honest exchange of ideas and perspectives across ideological boundaries. These activities cut across all of our initiatives; see below for some recent examples of our advocacy efforts.
Transportation Advocacy
In April, 2010, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) unveiled a new website, www.mass.gov/massdot/rt9resurface, devoted to keeping residents and area businesses informed about the progress of the $12.5 million federal stimulus American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) road project which is part of Governor Deval Patrick's Massachusetts Recovery Plan to secure the state's economic future. The ongoing project is resurfacing 7.8 miles of Route 9 eastbound and westbound from Walnut Street in Natick to the Framingham/Southborough Line. For more details on the project read the Partnership's Memo and check the Route 9 site for regular updates on the project's schedule, which continues through the Spring of 2011.
